Hawaii With an Ending

What, you think I don't have a million of these images?
Also we should do more stuff like this for the show. Folk covers of the Smiths.

Irish Longing

That is, of course, not the final violin performance, I'll get my violin guy in here of it is approved. I also realized that this photo is not an Irish girl, but a still from The Ring. Which is spooky, and I'm sorry.

Guitar, midi violin.

Hawaii

Ukulele.

Emotional Hawaii Minimal

Americana Indian Two

A mixture of American folk instruments and rhythms, with traditional native American rhythms and tunes ( the flute is playing a tune based on the pow wow from the last try).

Big drums, guitar, flute, banjo, soft strings (to bond everything at the end).

Emotional Hawaii

I know this gets... un-minimal, but I while I was working on this peace, thinking about Hawaii and the island coves, the mist off the waves sweeping over everything. I just couldn't resist. I can try to bring it down if you like.

Ukulele, steel guitar, a trio of "ooohs", guitar, strings, cymbal, bass.

Americana Indian

' Viki music= a moving/sweeping/driving piece combining americana and native american=think “dances with wolves.” ' How'd I do?

Actual Pow Wow voices sampled (I wonder if I have to worry about rights, I guess I could try to recreate it) flute, strings, drums and drums and drums, orchestral percussion.

Old Timey Piano Banjo

Guitar, piano, banjo, hiss, and EQ. Oh yeah, just a little bit of bad tuning (JUST A TOUCH) for character.

Old Timey

It's almost 5 a.m. so I'm not sure how good these (this and country folk new) sound. I'll look again after I get some sleep. I did bout a dozen "do, do" variations, trying to get that right style.

Guitar, "Do"s. Also some loFi trickery for that old timey feel.

Country Folk New

Acoustic guitar.

Irish

Country Folk Minimal

Piano

Irish in Midi Form

SO like I said on the phone, you guys are going to really have to use your imaginations for a bit, because right now this is just a midi file, and sounds AWFUL! Especially that flute... wait for it.. ugh! So terrible! But actual instruments are being recorded as we speak.

Violin, penny whistle, bodhran, accordion (to be replaced by bagpipes)

Country Folk

Fun, but not too fun. Travely, but not too travely. Slightly contemplative, very very very slightly.

Acoustic guitar, electric guitar with some nice tremelo on it, piano, bass, drum set, steel (slide) guitar.

Sicily Again

Going for that "mangia" feel. Very loop-able. You said she is cooking in front this right?

Accordion, Tambourine, Mandolin, Tuba.

Sicily Longer Faster

Does this get fast enough? I did try out the clarinet, but it just didn't work. But the Marimba and accordion I like. At least right now. What do you think?

Classical guitar, mandolin, trumpet, accordion, tambourine, marimba.

Sicilian

Trying to get it in between happy and contemplative as per my instructions. The trumpet is midi. My trumperter gets back in town on Monday.

Two Kinds of Jewish Russians

This one is a minimalistic approach to the original piece.

This one in is the normal one, energetic, and a little quirky.

Violin, classical guitar, tuba, bass drum, hammer dulcimer, clarinet, accordion, and snare drum. I realize the Fiddler on The Roof images are cliche, but they're also the best Jewish photos Google Images has to offer.

Russian Jewish

Guitar, hammered dulcimer, violin, clarinet, strings. More on the contemplative side.

Banjos and Darboukas

Here is an attempt at the East Indian Meets Pioneer. It has the percussion and rhythm of the East mixed with instruments from the west. My neighbor was kind enough to let me borrow his banjo. I can't very much trust my ear this time of day, but I'm not so sure about the vocals now. It seemed like a great idea at the time.

Darbouka, Tabla, Banjo, Guitar, Bowed Acoustic Guitar (sounds like a Dilruba), Shaker, Violins (for that swelling open prairie feel), Vocal, Harmonica, Subtle LA Riot Bass for warmth.

New Opening Titles

How do you like the ending?

Saturday, May 23, 2009

Ghosts That Are Sad

This one is just completely different from the last try, and long, but it is sad, and eerie. It's Also kind of quiet so turn it up. Oh, head phones are definitely the way to listen to experience the rich tapestry of the piece.

Piano, strings, bowed electric guitar.

End Theme, Coming Home TWO

A more contemplative, thoughtful, Sigur Ros-y look at the End Theme.

Guitar, brushes on drum set, bass, bowed acoustic guitar, strings, glockenspiel.

End Theme, Coming Home

It is small at the beginning for a loopable underscore for dialogue, but then it get huge.

I'm still not sure about the drums, what do you guys think?
Guitar, piano, strings, bass, drum set, whistling.

Travel Big

Basically the same triplets from the "Travel" guitar part, but with a drum set, another guitar, piano, tambourine, and electric bass through an Ampeg flip top amp.

Ghost of Our Past

We wanted an eerie feel, that also had rhythm since the people are going to be haunted yet traveling or searching. How'd I do?

Bowed acoustic guitar, Piano, Guitar.

Five Kinds of Teasers

I should mention that these sound horrababley right now. ENJOY!

Big City Hustle Two

Another stab. This one is in Five Four time, which always feels like a busy/city-ish tempo to me. Hearkening back to a fifties Manhattan. As per Kendall's text. Did I get it?

Piano, drum set, two kinds of bass, and guitar. And in need of a good mix!

Contemplative

And one more contemplative.

Again, a quick mix. On this one we've got Piano, Vibraphone, the Fender Rhodes piano, and holding it all together is a guitar.

Ah Ha Moment

Here's another try at the Ah Ha, or Epiphany Moment.

I think I need to mix it a bit better, but I wanted to get it up for your consideration.

Big City Hustle (New Talking About Themselves)

Again, the lack of speakers that handle low end will be a problem for listening.

Contemplative Ghosts

I tuned my guitar down to B giving it a dark warmth, and maybe just a touch of eeriness. There would be a lot more low end than what will come out of your computer speakers, which is important to the piece, so bear that in mind while you listen.

Childlike Discovery

When a child approaches a piano she usually plays random keys with no particular rhythm. I tried to capture that in this piece. I wanted the tune to have a bit of a random feel, with a loose tempo. Eventually bringing it together toward the end. I did two versions of this. One with mandolin, to fill it out and give it a hint of the folksiness we are after on the show, and one that is minimalistic. Just piano. With this piece I'm trying to capture the magic of a childlike discovery.

Let's Get Started (Talking About Themselves)

This piece is meant to work as an "Ah ha" moment, or moment of determination. Also I think it could work with a moment of inspiration, or epiphany. I guess it really depends on the shot right?

This Piece uses; Guitar, Piano, and Mandolin. I also did a version with a shaker if you'd like to hear it. It felt a bit harsh so I didn't include it.

I couldn't find a picture that described the song well enough, I just went with this one when I realized how much time I was wasting.

Southern Contemplative

This is meant to be a piece that can exist as a very emotional, heart string tugging feel, but also take us through a "what have I learned", poignant time. It was written to be loopable as a whole, but also just the part with vocals, or just the part with piano.

My favorite part is at the very end where you can hear the sustain pedal slip and boom on the piano. This was an effect I had to create in the studio, since the piano is a midi version of a mini grand, which would never fit in my little studio. Just one of those little things you may not notice that add realism and quality to production, and are fun.

That is me singing, with a lot of E.Q. and reverb trickery.

A Traveling Piece

This moves a lot like a traveling piece, but it could also work as an "Ah ha!" moment or determination moment I think. You would know better than I of course. It is also a versatile guitar part that could work very well with other instruments accompanying it. Which I am planning to do.

The Opening Titles

With its grand, majestic piano, and rugged Fleet Foxy guitar parts this piece just screams "Start the @$#%! show!"

Claps And Ukulele

Just as the title says, what you get with this piece is some feel good siting 'round the campfire community players type feel.
