How To Investigate A Murder

I also did an option with a bongo coming in with the flute. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I think I'll add it to the stems for the option. There are also two endings on this piece (both versions), for more stopping options.

Guitar, marimba, flute, bass, bongos.

I really like this piece a lot but I worry that it might be a bit too dark. Sam is such an optimistic guy even when he is in the middle of an investigation that I'm not sure if it'll work. Kendall, Chris, and Zach, what do you think?

I like this. I think it could fit, but I think that it should change into a major key somehow through the piece with some of the same timbre as the beginning (to match his personality).

I also think it's a great composition, but agree with Josh and Chris that it needs a bit more optimism to compliment the feeling of doom it conveys. A Something extra that reminds us this is fun, and that doesn't make us feel like Sam is in danger. Like Chris said, resolving into a major, or incorporating one throughout - maybe the via the use of a dedicated instrument in a major, or a unique and reoccurring rift that is lighthearted.

Although I would suggest changes to this music, It could work 'as is' in scenes 3 (Lenora/Sister/Death Certificate), 4D(Claudette Story), and 5C(Bail/Jury Order discover Courthouse). Basically it works for the 'murder' but not for sam's 'investigate/searching'.

In my opinion, music with an optimistic/surprising/prodding/fun element would be very useful for scenes of Sam Searching, which outnumbers 'murder' scenes 3-fold. If a modified version could maintain the mystery feel, it could also be used for said 'murder' scenes.

So, it's useful in it's current form, but leaves us with the need for 'searching' music. A Church/Arethra Franklin style might well work for his seaching around his home town, as he's back home, and it would feel family/community/nostalgia oriented, but not so much for the Coal mine, Graveyard, or Coffin scene. And also, what do we do in the '3rd act' when we go all japanese on his ass? I think we want some oriental express up in this 2nd musical selection.

So I conclude that modifying the current music to fit the 'murder & searching' is in the episode's best interest, and using our 2nd musical composition to bring out the buddhist in Uncle Sam is worth a discussion.

So those are my unabashed thoughts on what's best, but I will make it work with whatever I'm given, and it will be awesome.
